Artist Statement

The pictures I took for this recent project were all taken from my family's farm. Every piece of the farm has a story, some I wasn’t even around for, so each picture has stories behind it. All of them lead up to the final photo being of my grandparents bedroom, the one where my grandad passed away in his sleep months after my grandmother had already passed away in a nursing home. I wanted to take these pictures because I wanted a way to catalog the stories from both my dad’s childhood and my own. Recently, after my grandfather had passed away and I was still away at college, the basement of my grandparents house flooded causing us to lose a lot of old items and memorabilia that my grandparents left behind. My father and I probably took it the worst because it was his home and the place I spent a lot of my childhood. It hurt to see it in such disarray, but after coming to terms with it I wanted to use it as a means for my dad and me to move on.
